All UWA staff and students must comply with the UWA IT Regulations which can be accessed at www.uwa.edu.au/it/policy/existing/regul. In addition, all users should make themselves familiar with the UWA IT Policies, accessible at www.uwa.edu.au/it/policy/existing.
Use of Faculty Computing Facilities Faculty computing facilities (both undergraduate and postgraduate laboratories) are provided to assist and enhance students' educational experience while studying at UWA. We ask all users to please treat these facilities with due care and respect. On applying for access to the Computing facilities, all student users must agree to comply with the following conditions:
DO- keep your password secret. If someone else gets your password, they will not only be able to use the laboratory (taking up a valuable space), they will also be able to get access to your information.
- Be aware that, in order to monitor and maintain the effective running of the laboratory , the computing staff need to observe use of the facility, network traffic and its content, and can therefore read student files held on facility equipment.
- co-operate in using the facilities in a sensible and considerate manner. This facility can only be used for coursework and for related computing of an educational nature, for example, exploring the internet for materials related to courses. In the latter case, you must relinquish the computer to a student waiting for a machine on which to do coursework.
DO NOT
- cause damage to equipment or laboratory facilities, either willfully or through negligence
- allow access to your account by another student (for example, by divulging your password)
- use another student's account
- disrupt other students by talking, or (except when using headphones) playing music or lecture recordings
- access another user's files without explicit permission
- attempt to circumvent any form of hardware or software protection, or any prescribed resource limits
- perform any action, such as the reproduction, installation or use of unlicensed software, which is in breach of the copyright act
- install unauthorised software on any faculty computers
- delete or modify installed software
- compromise the physical security of the laboratory (for example, prop doors open, leave the laboratory unattended with windows open or tamper with video cameras)
- bring food or drink into the laboratory
- leave bags or packages unattended in the laboratory
- grant admission to anyone else to the laboratory
- perform any deliberate action which disrupts or adversely affects the use of the facilities by other staff or students.
Explicitly, all laboratory users grant permission to Faculty staff to observe all use of the facilities, network traffic and its content, and read any student data held on or transported by Faculty equipment in order to monitor and maintain the effective running of the facility.
Use of these facilities by students is granted under condition that student will abide by these regulations. Not withstanding other penalties, a breach of these conditions of use may result in withdrawal of access to these facilities. |
