Email and Internet Access

Email

The University provides all enrolling students with an email address and students are encouraged to use this address. To activate your account, go to the University Email Service site (you will need to know your PIN number). The Email Service site has useful information on such matters as how to use and manage an email account, redirecting your University emails to another email location, changing passwords and checking account details.

Click here to read your email.

Please note that if you have applied for and activated your email account in previous years, it will not be necessary for you to activate it again. Students who have been enrolled in previous years but have never activated their account can do so via the University Email Service site.

Internet Access

To take advantage of the fast network in the lab, start by upgrading your University email account to a full service account. More details explaining how can be found here, as well as information about network traffic charges.

There are several web browsers installed on your computer; the most reliable are Safari and Firefox. Find them in the Dock at the bottom of your screen, or in the Applications folder. You should get a trouble-free connection to all UWA web pages, including WebCT, but before other pages will open you can expect a cryptic message to appear asking for your 'user ID' and password.

Your user ID is your email name (the name before the @ in your email address) and your password is your email password.

As long as you have upgraded your University email to a full service account, you will get a fast connection to the internet. If you make an error, you may need to quit the web browser, relaunch and try it again.

Internet Charges

Internet access, including email, is charged if you download (receive) more than about 250kB a day. It is a cumulative allowance over several days, so moderate users who comply with the University terms and conditions are unlikely to incur significant charges.

For detailed information about charges, click here. To view your netusage, click here.

If you have trouble activating your account, using your account, or you require more specific references or information, please email support@tartarus.uwa.edu.au, making sure that you include your contact details.
