MP3 Music and Audio Files

For several reasons, you should not store music files in your home directory:
  • physically there is not enough space on the file server hard disk;
  • playing audio from your home directory places an unnecessary burden on both the server and our network;
  • and legally, we cannot distinguish between files you own and pirate copies.
Where music audio files are necessary for academic purposes alternative storage media are available.  For staff members, please contact ithelp-fahss@uwa.edu.au with any queries regarding the alternatives.

We check all students' home directories regularly and delete any such files we find.

Using iTunes with your iPod
Instead of storing music files on your home directory, set up the iTunes software so that music can be saved to your iPod, or specify an iTunes Music folder on an external device.  Information sheets with instructions on how to do this are available for download in PDF format:
iPod User Instructions [60k]
iTunes User Instructions [56k]
